I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you how excited I am to be part of a team of teachers, support staff and parents who truly keep the concept of "CHILDREN FIRST" in all that they do. I know that a school community with this strong concept as the core value and common cause is ready, willing and able to do what is needed for educating every child. I take the business of loving and teaching children seriously. For me, education is not only my career, it is my passion! I start each day with a keen understanding of the profound privilege and honor that it is to be able to touch the future through our children.
As you explore our web page, White Oak's staff commitment to providing an enriching and nurturing learning environment where all students can reach their potential -- and then stretch a little more -- will be very obvious! We pledge to do our level best to ensure that each child is challenged, nurtured and provided with a safe and stimulating learning experience.
Thank you for your continued support, I am delighted to be working together as partners in learning!

AM/PM TRAFFIC SAFETY
1. Have your children seated in the backseat and plan to exit on the passenger side of the car.
2. Have their backpacks and lunches next to them.
3. Traffic attendants are there to open he car door and assist your child while exiting the car. There is no need for a parent to exit the car.
4. Please do not use the drop-off areas to park. If you need to visit the school office, find a legal parking spot on or off campus.
Please help us to keep all White Oak children safe.
CHANGE OF PLANS
Please make after school arrangements before your child leaves for school. If you have an emergency, please contact the school office at 818-889-1450 and we will notify the teacher. Because teachers check their email periodically during the day, there is a chance they may miss your important email.

Kindergarten “Age” But Not Kindergarten “Ready”?
Las Virgenes Unified School District Announces
Journeys—A First Step Kindergarten Program
At White Oak Elementary School in Westlake Village
Children begin their school careers when they enter the magical world of Kindergarten. However, with the increasingly academic demands of kindergarten, some parents are questioning their children’s developmental readiness for the traditional Kindergarten program. This is why LVUSD created Journeys — A First Step Kindergarten Program, designed for (but not limited to) students who turn five between July and December 2 and may not be socially or academically ready for “regular” Kindergarten, although they are age-eligible. Having 2 successful Journeys’ at Sumac and Lupin Hill Elementary Schools, we are looking forward to adding a Journeys class at White Oak Elementary School in Westlake Village for the 2010-2011 school year.
There is significant research that supports the importance of ensuring a child’s readiness for school. Journeys, although aligned to California Content Standards, will present curriculum in a sheltered, developmental way, at a pace that meets the students’ individual needs. Following a year in the Journeys program, most students will enter a traditional Kindergarten program, although some may be ready to move on to 1st grade.
For more information on the White Oak Journeys program, please contact the White Oak Elementary School Office at 818-889-1450. To make reservations for the Kindergarten Orientation scheduled for Thursday, April 15 at 8:30 am, please call the White Oak office. We look forward to adding this successful program to the White Oak campus.
