Every week, White Oak students, K-5, go to the Computer Lab. In the lab, the students practice their typing skills, and learn word processing, spreadsheets, Power Point presentations, desktop skills, file management and much more.
In addition to learning computer skills that will help them throughout their school career, and everyday life, the computer lessons are being used to re-enforce the core curriculum that is being taught in their classrooms. One week the students may use KidPix to create arrays and the next week they may use Microsoft Excel to explore and create graphs. Each grade has a different set of technology expectancies and curriculum related projects.
In addition to the Microsoft Office programs, the lab has a number of educational software programs that the students can use to strengthen their math skills, basic number concepts, analytical thinking and problem solving.
The Computer Lab is also home to our Reading Academy. The Reading Academy is a special reading support program used to target a student's reading skills through decoding and comprehension skills. The program assesses and then places the student in the appropriate training level.
