Cub Contributions (previously called Direct Donation) is the primary fundraising program for our school. It is the most profitable fundraiser because 98% of the money donated goes directly to the PFC budget. Where other fundraisers share dollars with a third party vendor or incur costs, all of your Cub Contributions go straight to the bottom line.
All of our fundraisers support initiatives to:
1. Enhance your child's education
2. Enrich your child's learning experience
3. Ensure White Oak remains among the very top schools in the area
The primary initiative is to provide enhanced education classes to every student from Journeys/Kindergarten through 5th grade. These classes include: *Fun, dynamic P.E. with Coach Ryan three times per week (grades 1-5) *An enriched and passionate art program with Ms. Stiles or Ms. Young 45 minutes weekly *Creative music with Mrs. Waldman each week
The PFC also provides the funding source for the Reading Academy, computer programs and instruction, classroom aides and support staff, classroom supplies, assemblies, earthquake safety kits, instructional materials, playground equipment, beautification (such as planters and murals) and many other expenses (such as the new piano) that contribute to the success of our school and allow each child to shine in their area of expertise.
Without your contributions to our "Cubs" these costs would not be paid. The Las Virgenes School District is in a dire budget crisis, which is why teachers have opted for furlough days to help balance the school district's budget and maintain average class sizes of 22 students in the primary grades. There is no other source of funding beyond the PFC's efforts.
Why does White Oak need so much money per "cub?"
Each year the executive board of the PFC prepares an annual budget. This year, we expect to raise and spend $206,500. The major expenses are:
Salaries
$163,575
Classroom Support
$13,000
Instructional Materials
$6,000
Landscaping & Beautification
$4,500
Art Program Support
$4,000
Other Expenses
$15,425
Total
$206,500
Salaries comprise 79% of this budget, which is why we often sum up our fundraising efforts with a statement such as "Your dollars are directly supporting P.E., computer, music, art and extended library hours." To cover our costs, we need a Cub Contribution of $425 per student.
Other schools in the area ask for less money per student, but their students attend fewer enrichment classes each week with a specialist, and often rely on parent volunteers to provide the expertise and commitment needed to carry out their programs. The extra efforts made by the White Oak PFC and our generous parents help make White Oak one of the best elementary schools in the area, very often with the top API scores out of all the nearby schools. In recognition of this extraordinary school community's efforts White Oak has received the California Distinguished School Award and the National Blue Ribbon Award.
Enhanced Education Programs
Why hire a specialist?
Specialists have extensive training and passion in their subjects that motivates students in a different way than their regular teachers.
Students receive the rewards and benefits of a more enriched curriculum and an increased frequency of classes with a specialist.
Teachers have more time to focus on academic lessons.
Parents do not need to volunteer for these hours each week.
Why are art and music important in education?
Art and music develop a sense of craftsmanship, quality task performance, and goal-setting.
They nurture important values such as team-building, respecting alternative views, and appreciating different cultures and traditions.
Why is physical education important to our children?
Eleven published studies found that regular participation in physical activity is associated with improved academic performance.
Well over 30% of our graduating 5th graders each year say that P.E. ws their favorite subject at White Oak.
Why do we need to support our library?
Reading stimulates and develops the imagination and critical thinking. Reading also refines cognitive and creative skills.
Without strong reading skills at the core, students struggle with all academics. Strong readers in the classroom keep up with the curriculum; weak readers need extra attention from the teacher and slow the class down as a whole. White Oak's Reading Academy offers additional reading support to students to help them stay on track with the rest of the class.

Any donation amount is appreciated - really!
Contributions can be spread out over the school year by setting up automatic monthly payments on your credit card. Click the "Just Give" box on the right hand column of the school home page, create a profile/login and click "recurring donation." Just $36.00 per month per child will cover you!
This money is not used to pay the district or the school administration. Withholding funds as a "punishment" for a bad experience or other issue does not punish anyone except the programs our children enjoy.
Many families move to Westlake Village because White Oak is a highly respected school that continually dominates the API scores for schools in the area. The best protection for your housing investment is to keep White Oak at the top of these API scores.
